The DS-160 form: two facts that cut through all the rumours
In our WhatsApp community for F1 visa students heading to the US for fall 2025, the DS-160 form comes up constantly — and so does the confusion around it. I want to clear that up right now with the two things that genuinely matter.
Fact one: the DS-160 you used to book your appointment is mandatory
The DS-160 confirmation page you bring to your appointment must match the number printed on your appointment confirmation page. These two numbers have to align. If they do not, your appointment is not valid. So before anything else, double-check that you are carrying the right DS-160 confirmation page — the one that was active when you booked your slot.

Book a Mock InterviewFact two: you can correct your DS-160 before your biometric appointment
If you spot an error on your DS-160 form before your biometric appointment, you can fix it — and there is absolutely no risk in doing so. Fill out a new DS-160 form, then take both the old form and the new one with you to your biometric. Across all locations in India, this correction is being processed without any issue. You do not need to rebook your visa appointment. You do not need to panic. Just bring both forms and let the biometric centre update it for you.
Stay connected with students going through the same process
Beyond DS-160 questions, one of the most valuable things you can do right now is connect with other students heading to the US for fall 2025. Our WhatsApp community is where I share the latest embassy patterns, recent interview trends, and updates that are not published anywhere officially. You can also connect directly with students going to the same university or even the same course as you. If you have not joined yet, the link is at shachimall.com/join-wa.
