The complete timeline: applying for a US visa from Singapore
If you are considering applying for your US visa from Singapore, one of the first things you want to know is how long the whole process actually takes. Based on a recent student I worked with, here is a real, day-by-day breakdown of exactly what happened and when.
Step 1: Starting the Singapore visa and requesting the US embassy account transfer (around 29th July)
Everything kicked off around 29th July. At that point, two things happened simultaneously. First, he began filling out the Form 14A, which is the application form required to obtain a Singapore visa. Second — and this is something my team handled — we drafted and sent a formal email to the US embassy requesting that his visa account be transferred to Singapore. That account transfer request is a step many people do not realise they need to initiate, and getting the wording right in that email matters.
Step 2: Singapore e-visa approved and account transferred (30th–31st July)
By 30th or 31st July — so within about two days — he received his Singapore e-visa. Around the same time, the US embassy approved the account transfer, meaning he could now book his US visa interview slot in Singapore. Both things came through very close together, which kept the momentum going.
Step 3: DS-160 completed (1st August)

Step 4: Choosing the interview slot (2nd August)
On 2nd August he reviewed the available appointment slots. There were openings on both 6th August and 7th August. He chose 7th August, giving himself a little more preparation time — a smart decision.
Step 5: Travel, interview, and visa received (5th–13th August)
He flew to Singapore on 5th August, giving himself a day to settle before the interview. The interview itself took place on the morning of 7th August. His US visa was in his hands by 13th August.
What this means for your own planning
From the day he first started filling out the Singapore visa form to the day his US visa was approved, the entire process took roughly two and a half weeks. The actual time spent on the ground in Singapore was just a few days.
