The problem with your to-do list
You probably write your to-do list in serial order — everything that needs to get done in a day. Make a presentation. Send emails. Handle things other people want from you. I used to do this for the longest time, and it stressed me out constantly. That kind of list is not a good system. It keeps you busy but it doesn't move you forward.
Start your day with just one task
Instead of the endless list, start your day with just one task — but make it the task that will add maximum value to your day. Even if you do nothing else, this one thing will have made the day worthwhile. I call this your MIT — your Most Important Task.

Book a Mock InterviewHow to figure out what your MIT actually is
To find your MIT, you need to know what matters most to you right now — and that means connecting it to your current goal. Ask yourself: what am I working toward at this point in my life? Your MIT each day should be something that moves you closer to that goal.
For example, if you want to make a career switch into a new field, your MIT on any given day might be to build out your resume for that field, or to reach out and talk to a job consultant. Every day you do this, you are inching closer to where you want to be. That is the whole point.
Do this every single day
Once you identify your MIT and start doing it every day, you will begin to notice that you are actually moving closer to your goals — instead of just staying busy. It is a small shift in how you approach your day, but the difference in what you accomplish is significant.
