What has happened with Fall 2024 slots so far
So far there has been one minor opening — and that is it. That opening released slots roughly between 21st May and 30th May, and it was targeted specifically at students whose courses begin in June. If you missed it, please do not panic. It was a small opening, and the majority of students did not get a slot from it. It was never meant to cover the full Fall 2024 intake.
When to expect the next slot openings
Based on the pattern I have observed across several previous intakes, there is typically a gap of about two weeks between each slot release. Once slots start opening, they continue opening in waves — so we are now entering that active window. Here is what I expect based on that pattern.
Opening 1 — around 15th to 18th May
This is what I expect to be one of the main openings for Fall 2024. These slots will be for interview dates in June, meaning you would book your appointment in May and sit your interview in June. That gives you roughly two weeks to prepare — which is not a lot of time, so please use it well. Most first-attempt applicants should be able to secure an appointment in this opening.
Opening 2 — around 10th June
Following the same two-week gap logic, I expect the next bulk opening around 10th June. These slots will cover interview dates from end of June through July. This opening, like the May one, will primarily be for first-attempt applicants.
Opening 3 — end of June or first week of July (for refused applicants)
If you have a visa refusal and have been waiting since the Spring intake, this is the window I expect to open up for you. Based on past trends, once the two bulk openings for fresh applicants are done, there are either minor ongoing releases or one larger opening — typically around end of June or early July — that is open to all students, including those with a prior refusal. You will get your turn. The system prioritises first-attempt applicants first, but refused applicants are not left out.
Be ready to book the moment slots open

Book a Mock InterviewRight now, the most important thing you can do is make sure everything is in place so you can book instantly when slots appear. That means your DS-160 form is complete, your visa fee is paid, your I-20 is ready, and your visa portal account is set up. When the window opens, you do not want to be scrambling to sort any of that — you want to just push the button and secure your appointment.
Do not let the slot search replace your interview preparation
I speak to students in our WhatsApp community every day, and I see a pattern that worries me: people are spending enormous energy tracking slots but not giving equal attention to actually preparing for the interview. I completely understand the anxiety — you just want the appointment booked and the uncertainty over. But once you do get that slot, your interview could be in as little as 10 to 12 days. That is barely two weeks to get your documents organised and your answers ready. Please prepare in parallel, not after.
Three portal errors you are probably hitting — and how to fix them
The US visa portal is under heavy load right now because so many applicants are logging in at the same time. Errors have gone up significantly as a result, and almost everyone is experiencing some kind of glitch. Here are the three most common ones I am seeing, and what to do about each.
Error 1 — The OFC is booked and the page freezes
This happens when the system can show you biometric (OFC) slots but has no interview slots to offer you next. Instead of telling you clearly that no interview slots are available, the page just freezes. If this happens to you, log out immediately. Do not keep clicking or trying to move forward — nothing will happen, and staying on that page can cost you a reschedule attempt (more on that below). Just log out and wait for the next slot release.
Error 2 — Your reschedule count is lower than it should be
Several students have told me they are seeing a warning that they only have one reschedule left — even though they have barely rescheduled at all. Here is what is happening: every time you book your OFC slot and then sit on that frozen page trying to figure out what to do, the system counts that as a reschedule attempt. So if you have been clicking around on that stuck OFC page, the system may have quietly deducted one or more of your four allowed reschedules. This is exactly why I said above — if the page freezes after the OFC step, log out right away. Every second you spend on that stuck page is a potential reschedule counted against you.
Error 3 — A generic 'an error has occurred' message
This one can appear on the login page, the payment page, or the appointment booking page, and it is a pure system load issue. There are a few things that consistently help. First, switch away from Chrome — this error appears most frequently in Chrome. Try Safari or Firefox instead. Second, use incognito mode. Third, try logging in during off-peak hours — very early in the morning, late at night, or mid-afternoon on a weekday. Finally, try a completely different device. If you are on your laptop, switch to your phone, or borrow a different laptop. Changing the device alone often clears the error.
