Why this question comes up so often
When I do one-to-one sessions with students, I keep the last two to three minutes open for questions and general discussion. The most common question I get — by far — is about what to wear. Many students even have their outfits picked out already and want me to tell them whether it is appropriate. I completely understand the confusion. A visa interview is still an interview, but it is not a regular job interview. So where do you draw the line?
The general rule: keep it on the formal side
Even though you are a student, that does not mean you should dress extremely casually. Walking in wearing jeans and a t-shirt is not the right call — this is still a formal interaction with a Visa officer, and your appearance is part of the impression you make. The safest approach is business casual. It is formal enough to show respect for the process, without being overdressed or uncomfortable.

Go with a formal shirt — half sleeves or full sleeves both work — paired with trousers or dark jeans. That combination hits the right note: put-together, professional, and appropriate for the setting.
For girls
A formal blouse or top paired with pants or a skirt is a solid choice. You also have the option of wearing Indian wear, which is perfectly appropriate and widely accepted at visa interviews. The key is that whatever you choose reads as polished and intentional.
