"I'm visiting my son" is the most common reason people apply for B2, and the most common reason they get refused.
Having family in the U.S. is a risk factor. Officers see it as a reason to stay, not to visit. If you're retired, your child is sponsoring the trip, or you've never been to the U.S. before, the officer's default is to doubt you.
