Are visa appointment slots actually available in Singapore?
Yes — slots are available at regular interview windows in Singapore. This is not a rumour or a one-off situation. Based on what my students have reported after going through the process, appointments are showing up on the calendar at standard intervals. If you have been waiting and wondering whether it is even worth checking, it is. Slots exist, and students are getting through.
What is the approval rate like for F1 students interviewing in Singapore?
The approval rate is good — but it is not random. Based on what my students have shared, approvals are going to applicants who have a strong profile. Specifically, three things seem to matter most:
First, a good admit — meaning a university that is somewhere in the top 100. Second, no prior rejection on your record. Third, some form of scholarship or funding from the university. If you have all three of these, your chances in Singapore look solid.
Who is getting rejected?
Rejections are also happening in Singapore — I want to be honest with you about that. The pattern I am seeing is that rejections are mainly hitting students who have a prior rejection on their record, especially a recent one, and those whose university is not particularly well-ranked or well-regarded. If either of those describes your situation, your preparation needs to be even more thorough before you go in.

The interviews are moderate in length — roughly three to five minutes. The visa officers are focused and asking all the key questions. You need to be prepared to speak clearly about your university, your course, your profile, your academic background, and your funding. These are not soft warm-up questions. Officers are asking them directly and giving you enough time to respond, but you have to show up knowing your answers.
One thing worth knowing: some of my students were also asked why they came to Singapore specifically to go through this process. Have a clear, honest answer ready for that question. It is not a trap — they just want to understand your situation.
How long does it take to get your passport back after the interview?
Once your interview is done, the 221(g) process kicks in. What this means practically is that your social media handles are checked before anything moves forward. After that, you will watch your status change in stages: from Refused, to Approved, to Issued, and finally you receive a message to collect your passport.
This entire sequence takes approximately five to six working days. So once your interview is done in Singapore, plan to be there — or plan to wait — for another five to six working days before your passport is back in your hands. Budget for that time when you are making your travel arrangements.
