When will F1 visa slots open for Spring 2023?
If you are checking the visa appointment portal every day and seeing nothing, you are not missing something — slots genuinely are almost nonexistent in September. From April through to around August, a massive number of F1 visa slots were released and a huge wave of interviews took place. September is the lull period that follows. Most of the slots you do see in September are for B1/B2 visitor visas or for work visas like the H and L categories. Very few F1 slots appear at all.
Based on last year's trends and what we are seeing now, F1 slots for Spring 2023 are expected to open sometime in early to mid October. So do not panic. What you should do right now is pay your visa fees, keep tracking the portal regularly, and use this window to focus hard on your interview preparation. The slots will come — but when they do, they will be limited, just as they were for the fall intake. If you get an interview date, you need to be completely ready to clear it in one go.
What to do if you already have a rejection from Fall 2022
Many of you preparing for Spring 2023 are here because your Fall 2022 interview did not go the way you hoped. You may have deferred your admit, or you may have applied to a new university altogether. If that is your situation, the quiet period right now — when there are no slots to chase — is actually valuable time. Use it to genuinely understand why your visa was rejected.
Rejection reasons vary. It could be gaps in your academic or professional profile. It could be your choice of university or the way you explained why you chose it. It could also come down to funding concerns. The first step is to pinpoint the actual reason and fix it before your next interview — you have the time to do that right now.

Spring-specific interview questions you need to prepare for
Spring 2023 interviews come with a set of questions that do not typically come up in fall interviews. The consular officer knows you are not starting in the standard September intake, and they will probe that. Here are the kinds of questions you need to have clear, honest answers for:
Why did you choose spring intake instead of waiting for the next fall? What did you do during the gap between your fall interview and now? If you enrolled in an online course, a bridge programme, or a prerequisite course during that time, expect questions about what you are studying and why you decided to study it online. These questions sit on top of the standard F1 interview questions, not in place of them. You need to be ready for both.

I would strongly recommend starting this early so you have enough runway to prepare properly.
The Core Package
If you are shorter on time but still want comprehensive preparation, the core package covers the essentials across three sessions: a review of your DS-160 form, a one-to-one answer-structuring session where we build out your responses to all the likely questions, and a mock interview session.
Single Sessions
You can also book a standalone 45-minute session — either an answer-structuring session or a mock interview, depending on where you need the most help. These sessions are focused and intensive. I gather the details of your profile well before the session so we can make the most of every minute.
