Your L1 appointment is actually two appointments
Most applicants are surprised to learn that a typical L1 appointment is made up of two separate parts: the biometric appointment and the Consular interview. They happen on the same day, but they are very different in what they involve and what is at stake.
Part one: the biometric appointment
The biometric appointment is the simpler of the two. The sole purpose of this session is to capture your photograph and take your fingerprints. There is nothing to prepare or rehearse for this part — just show up and let the process happen. Think of it as an administrative formality before the real work begins.
Part two: the Consular interview — this is where everything counts
The Consular interview is the real game. This is where everything comes into the picture, so it is worth knowing exactly what the flow looks like so you are not caught off guard.

When your interview time arrives, you will be asked to join a queue that leads you inside the Consular building. You will be called up one by one, and the first thing they will ask you to do is present your documents. Every document you are carrying will be verified at this stage, and you will also be advised on how to arrange them properly. Make sure your paperwork is organised before you get in line — fumbling through a bag of loose papers at the window is not the impression you want to make.
Step two: the visa officer queue
Once the document formalities are complete, you will be directed to join a second queue. This is the main queue — the one that leads you directly to the visa officer. This is the moment everything has been building toward.
Step three: the decision and the I-129S stamp
If your interview goes well and your visa is approved, the officer will tell you on the spot that your visa has been approved. They will also stamp your I-129S at that point. Hearing those words and seeing that stamp is the moment you have been working toward — and knowing the process in advance means you can walk in calm, prepared, and ready.
