Dress the Part: What to Wear to Your US Visa Interview
The US visa interview does not have an official dress code, but that does not mean anything goes. My advice is to go with business casuals or semi-formals — think neat trousers, a collared shirt or blouse, clean shoes. The key is that your outfit is tidy, you are well groomed, and you look presentable. You do not need to show up in a suit, but you do want the officer's first impression to be that you take this seriously.
Revise Your Answers Before You Leave the House
Before you walk out the door, sit down and go through your answers one more time. Make sure those answers are written down and accessible to you — not just floating somewhere in your head. A quick revision session on the morning of your interview helps everything feel fresh and keeps you from blanking on something you actually know well.

Book a Mock InterviewArrive 20 Minutes Early — Not Hours Early
Aim to arrive about 20 minutes before your interview slot. There is no benefit to showing up hours ahead of time — the consulate will not let you in early, and you will just end up standing outside in the heat waiting. Twenty minutes gives you enough buffer to get through security and settle yourself without unnecessary stress.
Stay Calm — The Officer Is There to Help You
This is the most important thing I want you to take into that room with you: the visa officer is not your adversary. They are there to facilitate the process and, where possible, to give you the visa. You have prepared. You know your answers. Walk in with that confidence. Maintain eye contact, keep a smile on your face, and answer each question calmly. Nerves are natural, but remind yourself that you are ready.
