Why can't I find an L1 visa appointment slot in 2026?

If you are trying to book an L1 visa appointment and the scheduling website keeps showing nothing available, you are not doing anything wrong — slots in 2026 have become genuinely tight, and there is a specific way to catch them when they open.

Why L1 visa slots are so hard to find right now

The overall availability of US visa appointments has come down drastically in 2026, and L visas are no exception. You may see extended stretches of time where absolutely no appointments are released — that is not a glitch, and it is not unique to you. It is simply the current reality of the system. One more thing worth knowing: if you are applying on a blanket L1 visa, your interview can only be scheduled in Chennai. If you are on an individual L1 visa, you have more flexibility — Chennai, Mumbai, and Hyderabad are all options. So if you are a blanket applicant and Chennai is showing nothing, there is no workaround on location.

The most important thing you can do: start early

The single biggest mistake I see applicants make is waiting too long before they even begin. The moment your company gives you the go-ahead — the confirmation, the paperwork, whatever triggers the process — that is when you should act, not a week later. Here is the order that works: fill your DS-160 form first, review it carefully, and then submit it. You now need a submitted DS-160 before you can even access the appointment scheduling step, so do not leave that form sitting in draft. Once your DS-160 is submitted, go to the US visa scheduling website, create your profile, pay the visa fee, and get yourself into a position where you are ready to book the moment a slot appears.

How to actually catch an appointment when slots are scarce

Appointments do not trickle in one by one — they tend to come in bursts. That means if you check the scheduling website once a day, you will very likely miss them. What actually works is checking three to four times a day at different times. Morning, afternoon, evening, and late night are not the same — the system releases slots at unpredictable intervals, so spreading your checks out gives you a much better chance of being there when a burst happens. It takes patience, but people do catch slots this way. Stick with it.
